What I’m doing lately:  Some hours spent Tuesday assisting Nancy Hom, curator of Our Stories / Our Way — API Artists and Illustrators with Children’s Book Press (presented by Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center in association with Children’s Book Press), hang a show at SomARTS Gallery.  The hammering, aligning and hanging continues Wednesday.  Never having come across her work before, but now having hung her work, I am now an admirer of the art of Felicia Hoshino (below, bottom left), illustrator for the book A Place Where Sunflowers Grow.  The show opens Thursday, May 3.

Our Stories / Our Way — API Artists and Illustrators with Children’s Book Press
The exhibit and events will be curated by Nancy Hom, with assistance from Children’s Book Press. Hom has illustrated several books for CBP and was also the designer for many of their titles. Accompanying the exhibition, there will be hands-on activities for school children, with the goal of creating their own book illustrations. We also plan to have readings by the authors and workshops for aspiring children’s book illustrators and a panel discussion on different aspects of the field.

Featuring: Felicia Hoshino, Carl Angel, Shiraaz Bhaba, Tomie Arai, Felicia Hoshino, and Nancy Hom.
